The difference between a single malt and a blended malt:
Single Malt Scotch is a type of single malt whisky, distilled by a single distillery, using maltedbarley as the only grain ingredient. A Single Malt Scotch must be distilled and matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years.
Blended Malt whiskies are essentially a blend of single malts, generally from different distilleries without the addition of a single grain whisky.
The Famous Grouse
It was this charismatic national game bird that inspired a Perth wine merchant, Matthew Gloag, to create the perfect dram for the growing number of sporting visitors to the Highlands. Soon its reputation earned it the title of The Famous Grouse.
From distillation to bottling, every bottle of The Famous Grouse goes through over 6,000 quality checks to ensure perfection every time. Every cask of whisky is selected for its quality and individual character. After blending, the whisky is returned to oak casks allowing its flavours to marry over a very long period of time; it is this process that makes The Famous Grouse a rare breed amongst whiskies.
A growing family
Since the early years, The Famous Grouse has stretched its wings and now you can embark on a voyage of discovery with other members of the species. Gold Reserve, left to sleep a bit longer in a sherry cask, is a 12 year old that has been described by the experts as ’Luxurious’. Then there’s the connoisseurs choice, The Famous Grouse Malt, once described as ’the grouse at its most graceful’.
The Distillery
It is without question one of the smallest and oldest distilleries in Scotland. There are records of a distillery in the neighbourhood at least as early as 1717 and some of the buildings on the present site date back to 1775.
