The Hungarian Design Market, WAMP, will be appearing three times this month, in Gödör Club, on December 6th, 13th and 20th.
The market offers diverse, innovative, contemporary local design, and provides the opportunity to meet designers themselves. As well as offering an afternoon out with a difference, it’s a great place to find unusual Christmas treats for you and yours, and during December’s fairs more than 170 Hungarian designers and artists will be present. They’ll be showcasing a wide range of products, from jewelry to textiles and shoes, through design objects, ceramics, glassware, children’s toys and games, and culinary design products. There will be also a large selection of design books, if you’re looking to brush up on the intellectual side of design. If you head along with kids, you’ll be able to leave them at the NOHA creative corner while strolling, shopping and sipping winter cocktails. Sugarshop will also flavor the fairs during the month, with its colorful, sinful design sweets, and DJ Nizar will be providing the tunes.
To motivate new, promising talents, WAMP also awards designers for particularly innovative collections. In November, István Esztány was named designer of month, thanks to his bags inspired by Hungarian folk dance. His first pieces, dubbed “enlarging bags”, were made for his collection of diploma works at the University of Art and Design, and his spectacular though simple bags have strong, specific colors inspired by folk crinkly skirts. He’s been featured on local Kossuth Radio and in the Magyar Nemzet newspaper. He was also awarded the Finlandia prize in October.
