Sziget: where we’ll be stomping our festival feet

There are few things we like more than frolicking in fields with good tunes, art, theatre and gazillions of smiley folk at our finger tips. That’s why we’ll be happier than happy pills during the Sziget Festival, and we’d like to share some of our festive wisdom with you. Forget any other advice (and just in case you feel like stalking us), here’s how some of the FUNZINE team will be spending their time on the magic isle!

Kriszti

Who/What? Irie Maffia
When? August 16, 6 p.m.
Where? MR2 Stage
Why? „Ten bad boys and one tough lady make the sound that will drive you crazy.” Hands In The Air!

Anna

Who/What? La Fura dels Baus, The Beat of the Forest
When? Every evening (www.lafura.com)
Where? The Sziget Theatre
Why? It’ll be a monumental installation, a visual shock with music and a mixture of theater and circus to affect all your senses (almost).

Vera

Who/What? The MR2 Stage
When? All day, every day
Where? MR2 Stage
Why? MR2 Petőfi Radio’s one of the most popular stations here, playing the best of contemporary and alternative Hungarian music. Look out for Péterfy Bori & The Love Band, Kiscsillag and Kaukázus!

Gabi

Who/What? Faith No More
When? Sunday 16th, 9.30 p.m.
Where? Main Stage
Why? “Oh, it’s a dirty job but someone’s gotta do it…” Seriously, Mike Patton’s a genius and still one of the best performers in the business. I recently saw them in London and they proved that good music only perks up with age. Rip-roaring, mind-blowing and simply unmissable!

Aranka

Who/What? The Arcadom Wall. It’s a 50m-long, 2m-tall wall which somehow represents the demolishing of the iron curtain and the Berlin wall (it’s not really clear for me how…). It will be painted by artists and Sziget-dwellers.
When? Throughout the festival
Where? We’ll be looking for it together!
Why? Because it represents what happened in Europe 20 years ago, as well as what’s happening here now, as we can form (paint) it in whichever way we like.

Amy

Who/What? Get married
When?
Every day, if you feel like it!
Where?
In the Wedding (Esküvő) Tent. Look for signs.
Why? Because feeling the love’s what festival’s are all about. Oh, and catch Demon Superior at the meduza-PÉCS2010 stage (Friday 14th at midnight). Do it because you’ll dance. Lots.

Veros

Who/What? Ability Park
When? Throughout the festival
Where? Look for the signs!
Why? To understand how disabled people live and feel about their everyday challenges by experiencing their lives in a personal dimension. Try yourself in a wheelchair or learn sign language!

Laca

Who/What? The Crystal Method
When? Saturday 15th, 7.30 p.m.
Where? Burn Party Aréna
Why? ’Cos I love and love (and love even more) running to their Drive: Nike+ Original Run album. It electrifies!

Kriszta

Who/What? José Padilla
When? Wednesday 12th, 7.30 p.m.
Where? Burn Party Aréna
Why? Let’s hope he’ll finally turn up! He’s not made it twice to Balaton Sound, as I remember… It’ll be a great way to start the night, with a bottle of fröccs in-hand!
