The culture of Pharaonic Egypt was characterized throughout by a reverence for the past, kept alive through myths and history, the preservation of its glorious achievements and the conscious and selective use of these attainments.
So we can say that a kind of “renaissance” attitude is deeply rooted in the 3,000-year-long history of ancient Egypt, hence the exhibition title “Renaissance in Pharaonic Egypt.” The focus is on the brief yet exciting period of the middle of the first millennium B.C. (7th-6th century B.C./dynasties XXV and XXVI), this period was a new – and the last – golden age following 400 years of political and economic hardship. The exhibition material comes from the British Museum as well as collections from museums in Berlin, Vienna, Florence, Rome, Trieste, Palermo, Munich and Zagreb.
