Recent Archaeological Finds at the Aquincum Museum

The archaeological heritage of Budapest is particularly rich, and the Aquincum Museum has organized an annual exhibition of the previous year’s archaeological finds since 1995. Starting April 16^th, they’ll present what was found during the year 2007, in addition to the best examples of previous year’s excavations, with surprises in store for both researchers and visitors.

The exhibition will be larger than ever, displaying finds from prehistoric periods, the Roman occupation and the Migration period, all from excavations conducted in the Budapest area. The present exhibition concentrates on anthropomorphic depictions, with prehistoric idols and vessels with face motifs as well as Roman anthropomorphic vessels on display. The most exciting find of the 2007 season is the life-size limestone statue of a Roman soldier shown wearing a cuirass. Prehistoric and Roman ceramic and glass vessels, metal objects, jewelry and grave steles will also be on display.
