Tropic Thunder
We all know that Hollywood actors are bunch of prima donnas who would scream and shout if they were made to do an honest days work. In Tropic Thunder, Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. star as actors on “the most expensive Vietnam movie ever shot” whose antics drive their writer and director to the edge, so the director (played by Steve Coogan) decides to do what we’d all like to do and drops them in the Golden Triangle, the home of the heroin-producing Flaming Dragon gang, leaving them to fight their way out, and film what happens. What happens is that pretty much every recent Hollywood film gets spoofed, which makes us all laugh. Hurray.

Dan in Real Life
A widower of three girls, Dan (played by Steve Carell), is good at solving other people’s problems in his job as an advice columnist. Bringing up his daughters alone and constantly worrying about other people’s issues, means that he doesn’t get much time for his own life. Things get complicated when he meets a woman in a bookshop and opens his soul to her. She has to leave quickly and he pines for her until she turns up… on his brother’s arm. The scene is set for a romantic comedy which is neither too reliant on the jokes or the romance, and steers just to the right side of sickly sweet as Carell continues to show that he’s a versatile and gifted actor, whatever he turns his hand to.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
A taster for the upcoming TV series in the same style, Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the latest spin-off from the world of light sabers, “The Force” and master Jedis who can’t form sentences properly. Animated in chunky CGI, this film is set between Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. In the film, the separatists (good guys) do battle with the Galactic Republic (bad guys) as more and more star systems fall prey to the “Dark Side.” We follow the heroics of Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda in a film which suits a younger audience rather than the usual Star Wars crowd.

My Best Friend’s Girl
Following in the footsteps of many other romantic comedies, from My Best Friend’s Girl audiences can expect the same boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl dumps boy, plot that we’ve seen a thousand times before. Enter Tank (Dane Cook), the guy who “boy” (Jason Biggs) pays to take out his ex-girlfriend (Kate Hudson), act as obnoxious, offensive, rude and disgusting as he can, in the hope that “girl” will realize how amazing “boy” is and come running back to him. Unfortunately for Tank, this time around, “boy” is his best friend Dustin, and “girl” just happens to be the one who can see right through his charade…
