For the eighth year, the Day of Hungarian Painting will be held throughout Magyarland, with more than 50 venues showcasing thousands of pieces by hundreds of artists, between October 9th and 23rd. “The initiative isn’t fading away, it’s getting fresher and fresher every year”, says Norbert Bukta, one of the event’s main organizers. It’s easy to notice that it’s gained increasing momentum, as the actual day has grown to be a two-week long multi-art festival, bringing the art-hungry here numerous specialties this year.
In the Róth Miksa Memorial House, for instance, there’ll be a Contemporary Glass Painting Exhibition from October 14th, as well as the Painter-Sculptor Show, where you’ll find painted sculptures and painters trying their hand at the art of sculpting. From October 16th, Bartók Béla út, linking Szent Gellért tér and Móricz Zsigmond körtér, will feature huge (and they mean it: paintings will be 2×3 meters in size) reproductions, for the visual pleasure of passers-by. The organizers haven’t forgotten about Budapest’s youth either, and the event Paintdrawings (Festőrajzok) will be dedicated solely to young talents; Fazekas Gimnázium (Fazekas High School) will also be holding the Conference of Art Schools.
The Day (or shall we say, two weeks) of Hungarian Painting will involve not only events in both the capital and the countryside this year, but also exhibitions from neighboring countries.
