Olá

Catch a rare opportunity to see ten Portuguese films produced between 1963 and 2008, most with English subtitles.

The more than 100-year-old Manuel de Oliveira, who won belated recognition as one of Europe’s leading filmmakers, will be represented by his ground-breaking early classic The Passion of Jesus, as well as his inventive recent excursion into Portuguese history, No, or the Vain Glory of Command. Catch the famous eccentric Joao César Monteiro’s first international success, Recollections of the Yellow House, the first masterpiece of the New Portuguese cinema, Os Verdes Anos by Raolo Rocha, and the recent works of a younger generation, too.

For a real overview of the subject, on September 20th, at 6:30 p.m., don’t miss the Portuguese film historian, Tiago Baptista’s richly illustrated lecture (in English).
