The exhibition Nudes 2007 by Zsolt Bodoni is currently showing at the Art Factory Gallery II. Zsolt Bodoni is known for his large, expressive figurative works.
In this series he has combined Playboy bodies with laughing faces from commercial advertisements. The oil on canvas paintings are made with a thinned down-light palette creating the effect of watercolor on paper.
Bodoni says he painted the series as a break from the dark, depressing work he had done on the year long project called The Big Picture (currently on view at the Art Factory Studio in the 13th district until August 28). The female nude has been prevalent in Bodoni’s work for the past ten years. Bodoni says the nude female conveys a more meaningful message and more clearly reveals the raw emotional state.
A renowned Italian art critic called the series “extraordinary” and deemed one a “masterpiece,” whilst an art critic from the U.K. called them “self-indulgent exploitation of the female form.” The only way to know for sure is to check for yourself, but be quick because the exhibition only runs until July 24th.
Art Factory Gallery II is located near the corner of Falk Miksa and Markó utca in Budapest’s 5th district. Falk Miksa is long famous as Budapest’s “antique row” and it has seen the addition of several contemporary art galleries in the past year making it a perfect spot for the Art Factory’s latest adventure.
Founded in late 2005, the Art Factory is located in a century old industrial complex near the center of Budapest and is home to some of Hungary’s most promising young artists. With a mission of supporting their artists in the development of their art and careers, the Art Factory is committed to establishing their artists’ place in the international art world.
