Once upon a time, when Tradition finally asked Evolution out on a date, the Gerbeaud dream was born. Since 1858, the Gerbeaud team has been spoiling and surprising both locals and tourists alike with their confectionery creations.
Emil Gerbeaud, who spearheaded this sweet empire at its start, was a professional and passionate chocolatier. Thanks to him, we can enjoy wonders like Macskanyelv (Cats’ Tounges) or Konyakmeggy (Cognac Cherry) today (bless him).
His passion for constant innovation lives on in the philosophy of the Gerbeaud team. Their selection includes all the legendary pieces of Hungarian confectionery as well as a handful of newcomers (many of them are potential legends, too, trust us). Besides top-notch ingredients, they always add a few drops of imagination, a pinch of innovation and a teaspoon of modern and hip to the recipes while bringing out the real tastes of tradition. And the results? Sweet slices of heaven; hand-made, top quality desserts scoring high both in their tastes and looks. Let’s see what we’ve stuffed into our must-munch list lately:
New Designs ˜ adventures in the land of sweet treats ˜
Royal Chocolate:
At the moment, this cake’s the absolute favorite of locals and internationals alike. Crunchy caramel wafer with walnut praline and Valrhona white chocolate (a divine French chocolate brand) on a chocolate cake bed crowned with a bitter chocolate mousse. It’s like biting into a chocolate cloud.
Black Forest 21st Century:
At Gerbeaud, this classic, loved throughout the whole continent, was redesigned to fit the taste bud needs of the 21st century. Literally. Think of an almond cake soaked in Cointreau and cherry pálinka with vanilla cream, bitter chocolate mousse and sour cherry jelly. Mmmm…
Basil-Lemon Cake:
The best example of how exciting certain taste combinations can be. It’s a really refreshing cake due to the basil-lemon mousse lying on a raspberry jam filled buttery gateau. The pleasant extra surprise is the bottom layer of crunchy almonds.
Macaroon:
Not exactly a traditional Hungarian dessert, still, these tiny tasty bites from France carved a stable spot in the hearts of many Magyar sweet-tooths. Available in chocolate, orange, raspberry, pistachio, cranberry-poppy seed versions at Gerbeaud. Oh, watch out, they are highly addictive! You’ve been warned…
Orange Caramel:
A beautifully layered cake with a good deal of cheer-up potential for any day of the year. The sweet romance of the orange and caramel layers take you to seventh gastro heaven. And when you think it can’t get any better, the best is yet to come. A dark chocolate wafer lying on an orange-almond cake
The Classic Pieces: ˜ with these you’ll never go wrong ˜
Gerbeaud Cake:
Their signature piece is still one of the favorites. It’s not without reason that this chocolate-packed, soft cake proudly wears the name of Gerbeaud. Not-to-be-missed for first time Gerbeaud-ers.
Dobos Cake:
One of the flagship desserts of Hungary. Filled with thick, chocolate cream with a crunchy caramel top. Favorites of many. Yours too?
