It may be dark and gloomy outside, but local band Tius Norma will be hosting what they’ve dubbed a Wintersun party. Capturing and keeping the warmth within four glass walls, Tranzit Art Cafe will be the backdrop for an audience to take the band’s bittersweet pill.
Tius Norma drag crowds to the bottom, and lift them up again, pulsating and floating high across the borders of what they’ve termed “alterpop” and indie. Inquiring about the band’s musical roots isn’t easy business, as they quickly reel off an eclectic list, from ABBA through hardcore to minimal electro.
The set list will be informed predominantly by the upcoming Diamond Rite album, with songs born using highly varying methods: members Tius and Noen composed on an upright piano and a laptop, respectively; tracks were then fleshed out by the rest of the five-piece band. Their choice of recording method was fairly off-beat, too. Diamond Rite was recorded in one day, in a suburban hangar, in front of a live audience, all filmed in HD by a four-camera crew. For the album, that concert film will be combined with footage already shot on location, including London and Texas, by photographer extraordinaire Zoltán Vancsó, and Tius. Diamond Rite is due for release in 2010. The December 19th gig will be followed by DJ Ali’s English set.
