We’re after anyone with anything interesting, funny, entertaining or just downright shocking to say. And we’d like it to be you! Loads of you, in fact.
It’s a chance to show your talent to more than that dinner party table or obliging group of English students, as there’ll be a discerning comedy crowd heading to Manga Cowboy on April 13th, for FUNZINE Open Mike, Take Two!
The event will be moderated by Hungarian television stand-up star Attila Gulyás, and the audience will vote for their favorite act. And what’s in it for you, apart from a night of nerve-wracking comedic public speaking? Well, the winner will be awarded with, wait for it, the fantastic opportunity to feature in FUNZINE magazine… Don’t all scream in excitement at once. Oh, and everyone there will be eligible to enter an on-the-spot raffle, including a special treat provided by the venue.
We’re an open minded bunch, so whatever your act involves, we’re up for it. Tell your friends, colleagues, hey, even your neighbors’ dog… we said we were open minded. Performers will need to sign up by emailing event@funzine.hu, so we know who to expect on the night. To perform will, of course, be free. What are you waiting for? Brush up your one-liners, get registering, and we’ll see you there!
Here’s who we’ve got lined up so far…
Tamás Rácz: “I’m an English major (that’s why I thought I tried it) university student, winner of the Hungarian state TV’s Speak My Mind show (that’s also why I thought I tried it).”
Edu Toth: “There is one thing in my life that I’m really, really scared of – being on the stage talking in front of people. When I grow up, I would like to be something very dangerous and brave; maybe an astronaut, a fireman or a ticket collector. The only problem is that I’m not brave. Not brave at all. But I simply can’t stand it if someone else talks instead of me. Hmm… maybe that’s why. April 13th will be my first story-telling occasion in English. Bbbrrrrrrrr, I can’t wait!”
John Heaton: Born and raised in Wimbledon, London SW19, England. Englishman in Budapest since 1996. Hobbies: Beatles, beer, tennis, chess and Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
