Merry-Go-Round / Körhinta (Zoltán Fábri, 1956)   April 7th 8.00 p.m    Special guestS: László Kolozsi (film aesthete)

Voted as one of the 12 Best Hungarian Films by critics and cinema-goers alike, Merry-Go-Round marked the start of the revival of Hungarian film-making in the mid-1950s. It was also the first film of Hungarian legendary actress Mari Törőcsik.

Mari Pataki and her true love, Máté, seem endlessly happy when sitting on the oh-so-romantic merry-go-around. They laugh, they love, they’re careless. But one can’t make a movie out of this, right? Of course not; so we have Mari’s father involved, too, who wants his daughter to marry his rich business partner. When the conflicts surface at a wedding party and Mari’s parents seem to crush her last rays of hope once and for all, the passion for freedom and true love in the young girl makes her act. Quickly and with determination.
Authentically dealing with the loves and lives of country folk in contemporary Hungary with heaps of directional and acting skills involved, it’s a must-see masterpiece.
