Since its establishment in 1955, the Derkorvits scholarship has stuck to the same principle: to help talented, local, young artists.
In recent years, the number of applicants has reached almost two hundred, with a jury of much-acclaimed artists and art historians selecting a mere ten for the annual grant of the Ministry of Education and Culture each year. A year later, an exhibition is held showcasing their works and their artistic progress. As for this year’s exhibitors, most of them are already permanent fixtures in the local art scene, have exhibited at reputable venues, received or been nominated for prestigious awards, and some have even found international recognition. As has become standard, this year’s “Derkó” exhibition is as solid in quality as it is diverse in genres and subjects.
