As part of the LOW Dutch-Flemish culture festival, the Brussels-based artist-run space Etablissement d’en Face has been invited to Budapest to present its most recent project.
Entitled Europa Vostra, literally “your Europe”, the idea is to critically examine the tendencies that characterize today’s Eurocratic view on the restoration and conservation of European heritage.
Next to the great discourse over unification, there is a completely contrary movement underway: that of advancing regionalism, in which people, with folk songs reverberating, are busy rehabilitating their cultural heritage. Rather than presenting a fine selection of coming artists from Belgium, Europa Vostra appears as a “gesamtkunstwerk” in which it is difficult to distinguish the individual works, or their authors.
