What do short-sight, burlesque dancers, hardcore porn and Soviet space missions have in common? Well, amazingly, something – namely, a funky brand of eyewear designed and produced in Hungary.
Tipton Eyeworks deals in glasses pimped, kitched and quirked up to the max. Frames in the Cinematique range are custom-made to order, and include sections of genuine 16 or 35mm film reels – from Emanuelle in Soho* – to Star Wars. A perky platter of genres is covered, from the 1940s onwards, including erotica, burlesque, softcore, hardcore, ‘40s boxing, ‘80s skiing, Soviet space missions, communist newsreels, cartoons and more. (That’s right, you did just read all of those words in the same sentence).
The range recycles film reels, so as well as potentially adorning your temples with nipple tassles, you’ll be being all eco-green. Oh, and in case you become attached to the folk in your specs, films are available on DVD… no ewoks though, as this only applies to the hard- and softcore ranges (think Swinging Cheerleaders).
After all that random commie-spacesuit-porno stuff, here’s the sensible part. All frames can be fitted with prescription lenses, and sunglasses (Italian, Cr39 UV protective) are an option too. Reels are protected by a waterproof, air-tight transparent encasement.
