Jean Michel Jarre is one of the most important figures ever in electronic music, elevating the style to new peaks of popularity as early as the 1970s and 80s, with 60 million albums sold world-wide to date.
Emerging as an innovative international superstar, he also created a new genre of outdoor mega performances, setting Guinness world records for three of them. The largest was in Moscow in front of an estimated 3.5 million people!
Upon its release 30 years ago, his début album, OXYGÈNE, took the world by surprise due to its avant-garde musical genre and audacious cover artwork. With OXYGÈNE, Jarre’s unique musical style, universally renowned signature melody and panoramic sound brought a breath of fresh air that captured the masses’ imagination and remains today a benchmark in contemporary music history.
Dozens of studio and live albums, compilations and video releases later, to celebrate his landmark debut album on its 30th anniversary, he’s unearthed his collection of vintage synthesizers and re-recorded the entirety of OXYGÈNE in stunning 5.1 surround sound and Dolby Digital. Furthermore, he filmed a performance of the entire album in High Definition and retro-futuristic 3D stereoscopic (glasses included!), which is being offered as a separate DVD, or as part of a CD+DVD combination package. With the combination of 3D visuals and surround sound, you’ll truly be in the midst of a legend, hence the name of the album: OXYGENE – Live In Your Living Room.
Jean Michel was accompanied by three musicians for this live performance, as the 8 track original masterpiece requires eight hands for a live performance. It was played totally live in one take, without tape or hard-disk playback, by himself and Francis Rimbert, Claude Samard and Dominique Perrier.
