We’ve been looking around the city for our new favorite local for a while. And Silenus seems to be a strong contender, as it appears to have a lot of everything you might want from your second (and a lot more exciting than the first) home.
First and foremost, Silenus is a beer-drinker’s paradise. Just imagine a place where you can sample brews ranging from local Dreher to Belgian Barbár Honey, from Japanese Kirin to good old Guinness. And the list of international beauties could go on and on, as Silenus stores 100 different types of alcoholic and non-alcoholic, bottled and on-tap, full-bodied and refreshingly light beers from all around the world. And if you feel like swotting up, you’ll find an enlightening list of all the beers on offer, with an explanation of their cultural and culinary backgrounds. Sounds good? We tried a few, and they taste even better. If you need tips on your tipples, then go for Chimay Bleue and Kastel Bier Rouge and you’re in there for an epiphany.
In some cultures, ours included, beer and football go hand in hand. Luckily for us, Silenus also sports massive screens, so you can support your team (or tennis player, or swimmer, or whatever sport your into). And now the FIFA World Cup’s coming up, you can cheer your national eleven with their national beer. Or wine, as Silenus cares for not beer people, as well.
While the boys are watching the match downstairs, the ladies can chat and dine checking out the eye-candy servers and international dishes, or dance around their handbags listening to the best Hungarian bands in front of the stage upstairs. And you won’t bump into anyone (unless you want to) as unlike most of the central venues in town, Silenus is really spacious with loads of comfy leather sofas, dark wooden furniture, and the general feel of an English pub, without the stained red carpets, that is.
You wanna get the whole package? Head to Silenus for the 1st Beer and ‘Pálinkas’ Festival between April 7th-11th to experience the dizzying selection of international beers, the finest local pálinkas, and to dance your socks off to Hungarian heroes like The Carbonfools, Heaven Street Seven or Korai Öröm. If watching a genius in action is more your thing, don’t miss Félix Lajkó’s gig on the 10th.
And the best reason of all is that Silenus is a 0-24 place, yep, the restaurant serves food all day and night, too, so you won’t have to wander aimlessly at dawn still filled with a lust for life, cos from now on, you’ll know where to go.
