Gold Bistro’s head chef, Sándor Kerekes, has quite a story to tell: having first acquainted the art of fine dining in Spain, while working in one of the exquisite eateries run by the Confessor of the Royal Family, he ventured on, criss-crossing Europe, on the lookout for opportunities to experience and learn modern cuisine from the very best.
After years spent in some of the continent’s most forward-thinking kitchens, he returned home, with one goal in mind: setting the (cooking) record straight on home turf and waving goodbye to the boring old days of goulash and co.
This is the ethos behind the latest offer on Gold Bistro’s menu. Sándor and chef Dániel Bernáth, restaurateur Gábor Szeleczki and DJ Péter Soltész have come up with the concept of an evening nicknamed ‘Food with a Mood’. We’re urged to “Forget the usual ‘wine & dine’ routine, and prepare your receptors for the ultimate in culinary pampering.” The team have created an eight-course dinner menu to satisfy the taste-buds of the refined gourmands amongst us, while aiming “to boldly go where no dining establishment has gone before.” In order to stimulate all sensory input-channels, they’ll add specially selected sounds (hence the DJ), lighting, colors and scents to the mix. The aim is “to truly emphasize the character of each course, and to genuinely arouse your imagination.” Expect the unexpected, and go with an open mind, as the Gold Bistro team pledge to “bring more than a fine meal to the table”.
To win a ‘Food with a Mood’ dinner for two, send the name of your favorite restaurant in Budapest to editorial@funzine.hu and tell us why you like it.
