Ah, champagne. The ultimate celebratory tipple, which conjures up images of elegance and romance, festivity and hospitality. The queen of grape juice that stylishly goes with pretty much every meal and adds class to all occasions.
Being a jolly bunch here at FUNZINE with a weakness for popping corks and dancing bubbles, we’ve decided to educate you a little on sparklies, bringing you the first-ever FUNZINE Bubbly Party on April 8th, our crash course on the world’s favorite festive drink.
The location? The brand new Wine&Coffee House, the little sibling of the popular Andrássy bar of the same name, which recently opened its doors to wine and coffee enthusiasts in the Allee Shopping Center, much to the delight of Buda folk. It’s a funky, hip place full of music and bustling events, which transforms from a café packed with snack-munchers and latte-sippers into a slick wine bar every evening, offering a hand-picked selection of top-notch wines from all over the globe.
Our special guest for the evening will be Róbert Koczuba, a winemaker at the Törley Sparkling Wine Factory (only sparklies made in the Champagne region can be called champagne), the leading bubbly producer of Hungary. Nestled at the southwestern tip of the capital, the factory is synonymous with tradition and quality. Its namesake, József Törley, opened his factory in Budafok back in 1882, after he’d spent years studying the production of champagne in France. He was quick to recognize the excellent conditions Budafok offered for sparkling wine making, from the climate to the chalky limestone slopes. In next to no time, he became a supplier of the Habsburgs and even exported to Paris! The factory today prides itself on producing 12 to 14 million bottles a year, not to mention the scores of awards they have stockpiled during the years.
