Sexed-up Snacking

In ancient times, foods were labeled as libido giving based upon their appearance. Others were inspired by mythology – Aphrodite saw sparrows as sacred, and thus the bird featured in aphrodisiac brews of old. A little sexier than sparrows, and with a touch more science thrown in, here are some foods to help keep you hot and steamy under the covers.

Asparagus: 19th century bridegrooms were reportedly served three courses of the green vegetable in the interest of pepping-up performance. There’s no modern scientific proof, but at least it can be eaten sexily.

Bananas: Full of Bromelain, which studies have shown to enhance male performance, they’re also rich in B vitamins and Potassium, essential for sex hormone production. Perhaps don’t try eating this one sexily in public.

Caviar: High in zinc, caviar can help stimulate the formation of testosterone, keeping males in working order.

Garlic: Garlic’s said to stir sexual desires. Make sure you and your partner share it together, though – for obvious reasons.

Chocolate: Banned from some monasteries centuries ago, chocolate’s both a mild sedative, making it relaxing and inhibition-lowering, and a stimulant, helping increase energy and the desire for physical contact.

Oysters: The Romans documented these slippery, sexy things as aphrodisiacs years ago. Their phallic nature probably had something to do with it, but they can change sex, inspiring claims that they help one experience both genders’ sides of amour.

Coffee: Caffeine’s a well-know stimulant, but too much and it becomes a none-too-sexy depressant. It stimulates both the mind and body, so partake in a little in preparation if you plan on staying up all night.

Almonds: A symbol of fertility throughout the ages, the aroma of the nut is thought to induce female passion. All that Hungarian marzipan’s full of it.

Nutmeg: Prized by the Chinese as an aphrodisiac, large quantities can actually produce hallucinogenic effects; but you’ll probably be happy with spicing up the bedroom.

Pine Nuts: Used to stimulate the libido since Medieval times, these classy little nuts are high in Zinc, a key mineral essential for male potency.

Raspberries and Strawberries: Perfect fruits for feeding each other, even better with melted chocolate or cream. Aside from that, they’re high in vitamin C and make an extra light dessert, to keep you nimble.

Oh, and our forefathers suggested we steer well clear of lettuce, lentils, watercress, dill and water lily.
