Hungary has a total of 22 wine regions, many of which include cellars that are centuries old.
If you’re not a local, though, there’s every chance you’ve yet to pay a visit to a Hungarian wine cellar – and that’s where WineTime aims to comes in. Since May, WineTime Hungary have been offering same-day wine tours spanning the Mátra, Eger, Szekszárd, Tokaj and Northern and Southern Balaton regions. The English-language guided tours comprise visiting three cellars, tasting four different types of wine, heaps of info, translations where necessary and lunch. A sommelier herself, WineTime’s owner, Marianna Posfai, individually selects the cellars and wines, which has led to heaps of happy (hic!) explorers.
Tours can be provided in languages other than English, with advance notice, and wine dinners and tastings (for a minimum of four people) are also offered on the Columbus Jazz Boat. Wine-themed events, such as team building days, stag and hen parties, weddings, and wine and wellness tours are also an option.
The latest WineTime venture is their Expat Wine Club, where selected, award winning wine-makers will showcase their produce during an evening of sipping and mingling with expats and locals alike. The first will be held at Doblo Wine Bar, 1072 Budapest, Dob utca 20, November 12th at 7 p.m.
Tickets for all of the above can be purchased from WineTime’s Klauzál tér office, or at most five- and four-star hotel concierge desks.
