No Bitching, no Moaning, just wine at Treehugger Dan’s!

At Treehugger Dan’s Bookstore Café and Discover Budapest, they’ve been combining fine wines, foods and conversation for a while now at their monthly Bitch Moan and Wine events. Since the off – on a heady summer’s evening in 2008 – we’ve been enjoying them, and this time we were as impressed (and inebriated) as ever!

The regular evenings aim to showcase the very best of Hungarian wine and food producers. Each evening features products from a different Hungarian winery (whisky even snuck in once…), and this time Villany wines from the Agancsos Vineyard were the star of the sociable show.

The family-run winery rests on the main street of Villány, and owners Zoltan and Eva Kovacs were there to introduce the wines and answer any questions. The six hectares of land produce Olaszrizling, Portugieser, Kékfrankos, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc varieties, and new this year is their Pinot Noir. On the night Portugieser, Kékfrankos, a particularly good Kánon Cuvé, and a remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon Barrique were on offer. A great love of their craft and a strong commitment to quality was clear. During the evening, an international crowd – of friends new and old – chatted long into the evening, whilst nibbling on yummy pogácsa and cheeses in the venue that also sells a great selection of English language literature and some excellent Fairtrade coffee.

As ever, if you haven’t discovered the delights of Bitch Moan and Wine, we highly recommend contacting Treehugger Dan at info@treehugger.hu, or visiting www.treehugger.hu for information on the next event. Registration is required, and it always fills up fast. So, our tip is to get in early. We know we will!

See you at the next one!
