Miracle Workers

We know Budapest’s a hub of creative sorts, so all you budding or experienced film makers and photographers out there, listen up!

The Faludi Academy has been organizing an annual thematic film festival since 1995. Over time, the small competition has developed into an international festival, having found its home at the Uránia National Film Theatre. As it’s developed, as well as presenting and evaluating works, the Academy has become increasingly able to provide educational opportunities related to film making, particularly for young people. At first, the institute only organized weekend seminars; since 2006, though, it’s been offering film making summer camps.

This year, the chosen theme of the competition is “Miracle”. If you’d like to take part, the closing date for applications for films is October 19th (to be handed in to the Faludi Academy). Like last year, the event will also be accompanied by a photography competition, also related to the theme. A specialty of the festival is the fact that a jury evaluates works during open screenings, where members share their opinions with both film makers and the public. It’s here, too, that visitors are invited to ask experts for advice – this year Jerzy Stuhr, the actor who played the main role in Kieślowski’s Amateur, will be there, heading the jury and open to questions.
