With the heat well and truly upon us, you’ll be happy to hear we’ll be taking the FUNZINE Odeon Film Club out into the starlit, balmy nights of Budapest!
To match the sunny time of year, this season we’re picking up the breezy, summer theme of international travel. A selection of international films will be shown in their original language with Hungarian subtitles. As ever, there will be welcome drinks and fantastic FUNZINE prizes – so don’t be late! Oh, and if the weather’s bad, don’t worry: we’ll simply move inside, instead!

Twenty filmmakers. Five minutes each. This cinematic patchwork is about the plurality of cinema, focused upon the City of Love: Paris. An audience is asked to weave a single narrative out of 20 moments, each shot connected with the last and the one it precedes. A reappearing character and a common theme of Paris (and, of course, love) fuses all.

Carl’s been sent to find direction in life by visiting his godfather, Quentin – the boss of Radio Rock, a pirate station based on a boat in the middle of the North Sea… It’s a personally eventful time for Carl, amidst an epic Dunkirk-style hundred-boat rescue to save Radio Rock itself. Rock and roll (at sea, at least) never dies.

2 Days in Paris, Julie Delpy, 2007, 96 min.
New York-based couple Marion and Jack attempt to rekindle their failing relationship via a trip to Europe. Gastroenteritis gets in the way of Venetian romance, and they end up in Paris: where Marion’s overbearing non-English-speaking parents and a string of ex-boyfriends live. An ideal environment for saving a limp love-life, then!
