Come one, come all to the returned and rejuvenated Funzine-Odeon Film Club, where for the next several months we will be screening Hungarian films with English subtitles every two weeks.
In an exclusive partnership with Odeon Lloyd Cinema, we’ve secured the rights to screen a selection of recent Hungarian films, many of which have never been shown with subtitles on the big screen until now. Our goal is to fill a widening gap between the growing output of excellent Hungarian films and the international audiences that want to see them.
In addition, this will be a way for viewers to get an inside look into not just the end product of Hungarian cinema, but also into the filmmaking process itself, as we have invited the directors, producers and other creators to each screening, where they will answer questions and describe their work in English, with the assistance of a moderator. With a good drink in hand you can ask them all about the secrets of the shoot, the process of screenplay writing, their celebrity encounters and more!
The selection of films from over the last decade will give you a taste of contemporary Hungarian film art, spanning the range from internationally recognized works through popular domestic pop/art films to first-time filmmakers.
Come early to each and every screening, as we’ll be waiting for you with a welcome drink and our classy Funzine prize draws, and you can make some new friends or chat with old ones as well.

Synopsis
The setting is a small town on the Hungarian Plain, during a bitterly cold winter. Despite the bewildering cold, hundreds of people have gathered around a circus car on the main square in order to see a giant stuffed whale. They have come from various villages of the plain and stand waiting and faceless. A few ambitious characters feel they can take advantage of those doomed to passively fall into even deeper uncertainty and the tension grows to unbearable levels, brought to explosion by the figure of the prince, who is hiding behind the whale.
