On July 3rd, Coke Club, Balaton’s party headquarters in Siófok, will be opening its gates for you to sun-soak and water-soak, dance flip-flopless and party until the early hours. Legendary DJ Mark Knight’s live set will kick off the summer-spanning party series (through August 22nd) so we caught up with him for a chat.
Your Sessions 12 for the Ministry of Sound are said to be of mixed styles. How would you describe your style as a DJ?
I guess, without sounding cliché, I like to take people on a musical journey, starting out with deep house and building up to techno. Whenever possible, I like to play for five to seven hours. Ministry of Sound in London, Pacha in New York and Space in Miami are the places where I have regular Toolroom Knights residencies.
You’ve founded your own record company and act as a song writer, a producer and a DJ, all in one. How can you manage all this?
I really have to split my time, balancing various roles between A&R and the things that surround Toolroom. I’m really fortunate to have a great team around me to make even attempting the whole thing possible.
Where do you get your inspiration from for your own songs?
The great thing about music production nowadays is that it can be done anywhere at anytime with the use of a laptop. I use every available minute when travelling to either start tracks which I will then finish in the studio or to continue tracks that I’ve started in the studio. It’s all about making the most of your time.
Your hippest music moment ever?
Wow, there have been so many; one memory in particular that stands out is Toolroom Knights on the Terrace at Amnesia Ibiza when everyone on the dance-floor sat down during the drop of Man With The Red Face (a real hairs on the back of the neck moment).

It’s not going to be your first time in Hungary. How did you like the country?
Yes, Hungary is a beautiful country; I’ve played in Budapest at least six or seven times. The crowd are always up for a good party and appreciate quality house music, I’m really looking forward to coming back to play.
If Hungary were a track, what would it be like, and why?
Good Times by Mark Knight & Funkagenda – this pretty much sums up each and every visit I’ve had to Hungary.
The hit track of summer 2010?
Conscindo – my forthcoming release with Wolfgang Gartner. It goes off every time!
What can people expect from your Coke Club party in July? Any surprises?
I’ve got lots of upfront music and special re-edits to drop on the day. Can’t wait, it’ll be a great summer party!
