The organizers request that everyone use public transport, a bike or a boat to come to this year’s Sziget Festival for several reasons.
Unfortunately, Budai Rakpart will be closed during the event as the sewerage system will be under construction. This will vastly increase the traffic around Szentendrei út. In addition, for the first time, only the residents of the area can drive onto the side streets around the entrance by popular demand. The capacity of the parking lots around the festival is finite, so if you don’t want to waste time looking for a parking place and ending up parking somewhere illegally (hoping that your car won’t be towed away), choose the alternatives offered by the organizers.
To make visitors’ lives easier, local HÉV trains will run more frequently (even during the night) and with more cars. There will also be special Sziget buses between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. (Ft 350) stopping at some of the most important intersections of Budapest. If you prefer something quicker, last year’s most popular way to get to the island will be for you: hop a boat from either Jászai Mari tér (Pest side of Margaret Bridge), Vigadó tér (close to Vörösmarty tér) and Batthyány tér (on Day Minus 1 and Zero Day between noon to midnight, on the other days from noon to 4 a.m., tickets cost Ft 500) and you can even admire the beauties of the city from the Danube.
