We’ve teamed up with the French and the British Chambers of Commerce to put together another night of contemporary jazz, handpicked from the local scene, for FUNZINE Club members, only. This time, we’ve lined up Viktor Varga – of the Hungarian version of the glitzy, primetime guilty pleasure, Britain’s Got Talent – and local star Micheller Myrtill and the Pintér Tibor Duo.
Viktor Varga
The 22-year-old singer’s career kick-started after he made his mark in 2009’s Csillag születik (“A Star is Born”), Hungary’s answer to Simon Cowell’s wildly popular talent shows. Viktor’s love affair with music started as early as kindergarten and since then, he has flirted with reggae, rock and classical music. His true passion, however, is jazzy melodies. The natural-born exhibitionist will be re-mixing jazz classics á la himself on the piano.
Myrtill Micheller
Hungarian household name, old school silken-voiced Myrtill Micheller’s been a staple of the local jazz scene for ten years now. After graduating as a jazz vocalist from the Franz Liszt Music Academy, she began her career as a jazz singer and vocal coach. She’s performed with numerous bands and solo artists from home soil, including Tamás Hevesi, Erika Zoltán, Roy és Ádam, United, Animal Cannibals, Zsuzsa Cserháti, TNT, Náksi & Brunner and István Lerch. She’s often a guest singer of well established local act, the Benkó Dixieland Band, and if all that’s not enough, she does a particularly interesting version of the late Jacko’s Black or White. Really.
In June 2007, she, listed as one of the 50 best young Hungarian artists by the newspaper Magyar Hírlap, is the star singer of local TV show Szombat Esti Láz (Saturday Night Fever) and a vocal coach of the Magyar equivalent of Britain’s X Factor, Megasztár. 2009 saw her touring London and releasing her first French-Hungarian album.
