The annual Making New Waves Festival, organized by the Hungarian Computer Music Foundation, features performers from around the world, attracting an audience open to new, innovative forms of musical communication.
This year’s festival will present artists from Europe, the USA and Japan, exploring the fields of multimedia and electronic networks. The festival showcases new works that explore the notion of near and remotely connected spaces, and there will be the opportunity for the public to influence some of the pieces through network technology. An audience will be able to experience compelling and flamboyant ‘downtown piano queen’ Kathleen Supové, Hungarian dancer Andrea Ladányi with laserbeams, contemporary jazz sax improviser Frank Grakowski performing via the Internet with David Wessel in California, Georgi Sztojanov’s music theatre piece featuring different vocal genres (folk, opera, choir) and different forms of network communications, as well as the European Bridges Network Ensemble, DSP and NetRooms workshops… a night where the dream of futurists will come true, with a performance by MERZBOW Masami Akita, the most well-known Japanese noise icon, for the first time on a Hungarian stage, together with the genre-crossing young Hungarian drummer Balázs Pándi; and the most sonorous engines in music history, a Yamaha motor concert!
This year, the Making New Waves Festival will be organized in conjunction with the Music in the Global Village Conference, where experts from across the globe will discuss relationships between music, networked systems and other genres of art.
