Make your way over to Műcsarnok, November 19th-22nd, and you’ll find yourself amidst the flagship event of Budapest’s burgeoning art market.
Over the years, the event – originally called Antique Interior, held in the Ethnographic Museum 16 years ago – has undergone major changes. At the Budapest Art Fair, classic and contemporary masterpieces, Hungarian and international works, world-famous artists and young, upcoming talents, guided exhibition tours, documentary film screenings, panel discussions, auctions, art workshops and a charity art project will converge. Austria will be the guest of honor, and this year the fair will boast more foreign exhibitors than ever before.
The work of key Hungarian artists of the 19th-20th century will be on display and available for purchase, and a collection of predominantly Hungarian graphics will be auctioned. You’ll also be able to get clued-up on how to recognize forgeries, at a professional forum. Kids’ workshops with a sophisticated twist will be taking place, as well, where not only painting and sculpting can be practiced, but critical essay writing, too! Young creatives will also work together with well-known contemporary artists to produce works to be sold at a charity auction. Oh, and each ticket to the fair will enter you into a raffle featuring huge prizes, including a trip to that other great cultural hub just down the Duna, Vienna.
