Get Your Rocks Off!

Under the codename LOSK 0101/1, wind your way through the corridors of the former top-secret military hospital and nuclear bunker in the hills of Buda. That’s right, underneath Buda Castle there’s a whole other world – and it’s open to the public…

Towards the end of World War II, this secret, underground hospital was set up to treat thousands of soldiers and civilians. After being disused for some time, the hospital came into use again during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. Later, in the Cold War era, authorities extended the hospital to serve as an atomic bunker, installing facilities that could help those inside survive a nuclear attack. Over 70 wax figures and tons of original objects ensure the exhibition is a chillingly accurate representation of the way things were. So, make your way over, take a tour and travel back in time to discover a fascinating aspect of Budapest’s past.
