Over a decade after her premature death, Princess Diana still stirs strong emotions across the globe. The award-winning travelling exhibition commemorating the life and work of the beloved Princess of Hearts has finally arrived in the Hungarian capital and will be on display at the beautiful Károlyi-Csekonics Residence until May 3rd. Featuring as many as 150 exhibits, including the princess’s fabulous royal wedding gown, diamond tiara, veil and other accessories, the exhibition comes from the 500-year-old ancestral home of the Spencer family, Althorp Estate, where it has attracted more than 700,000 visitors since 1998 – and it is only open for three months a year!
Delivered by Arts and Exhibitions International and ShowTime Budapest, the exhibition traces the life and humanitarian work of one of the most remarkable women of the last century in nine rooms, from her birth to her tragic accident, portraying her as a schoolgirl and athlete, as a kindergarten-teacher-turned-royal-bride, a the devoted mother, sister and daughter as well as a keen supporter of charity causes. You can see on display 28 of Diana’s wonderful designer outfits as well as precious family heirlooms, personal mementoes, paintings and exclusive home videos and photos. Other highlights include two diamond tiaras and other priceless family jewelry, original family heritage paintings and other artifacts, personal photos and letters as well as the original text of Earl Spencer’s heartbreaking tribute to his sister at her funeral.
Also, an entire section is dedicated to Diana’s many-sided public life, with special emphasis laid on her indefatigable charity work, such as her pioneering efforts to help people suffering in AIDS, the homeless and victims of landmines. A video presentation portrays the myriad of associations that continue to benefit from her patronage. The world’s sorrow over her tragic death is dealt with respectfully, displaying books of condolence as well as providing a space for contemplation and remembrance.
