Corvinus Mirror

Walking through the streets of Budapest, you might not realize the frequency in which the image and name of Matthias Corvinus appears in our every day life.He is there at the city squares, the restaurants and pubs; he is mentioned in folklore and emerges at the most unexpected places. Since the 18th century, the degree of popularity of the revered King Matthias has been shown in the many kinds of artistic expressions that paid him homage including paintings, statues, posters and products. From representative historical pictures to beer bottles, the Budapest History Museum has collected an array of items from the 19th and 20th centuries that depict the beloved king in an exhibit titled Corvinus Mirror.
