The latest paintings by award winning artist Eszter Sipos, entitled “Parallel steps”, are actually a reflection on Martha Rolser’s 1976’s installation “She Sees in Herself a New Woman Every Day”.
In 12 different pictures, she has reimaged childhood by painting her own foot in various different shoes as a metaphor for her own development and experiences.
Besides the intuitive mental similarities between the former and latter’s collection, the creation of the surfaces and reflection of the movements are just as exciting. In this confusingly simple situation, standing besides the painting, the viewer unconsciously becomes a part of the picture. Proximity and distance is demanded from both viewer and creator alike.
