See the history of the Zwack family distillery and its world famous liqueurs and spirits in two remarkable collections. The permanent exhibitions which Zwack Unicum Plc has inaugurated over the last two years in Budapest and Kecskemet are unique in Hungary both in style and format.
At the Zwack Unicum Heritage Visitors’ Center in Budapest the history of the Zwack Unicum distillery, the family, its brands and the history of Hungary go hand in hand.
The visit begins with a 25 minute documentary film in any one of four languages. The exhibits themselves are in three rooms starting with the early days and the founding of the company and ending in a foreseeable future where Unicum will be drunk on the moon! Each showcase has a musical accompaniment, while from the courtyard of the distillery below the smell of herbs comes wafting through the windows. At the end of the tour visitors can taste three of the Zwack brands including Unicum and Unicum Next in the charming old- fashioned tasting room. Comments are welcome in the visitors’ book and before visitors leave they can purchase drinks, souvenirs and reproductions of the original Zwack posters in the Visitors’ Center Shop.
The Zwack Kecskemet Pálinka distillery is in Kecskemet, an hour from Budapest on the Hungarian Plain, the heart of centuries of tradition in the making of „pálinka”, Hungarian eaux de vie.
The Zwack family has been producing premium pálinkas in the Kecskemet distillery for decades and today Sándor Zwack, son of Péter Zwack, the Chairman of the Board of Zwack Unicum Plc, has brought his entrepreneurial skills to launching the prestigious Nemes or Noble Pálinka family of fruit distillates. These pálinkas continue to garner coveted awards at international wine and spirits events. Here again a documentary film and a guided tour of the exhibits evoke the time-honored past and the high-tech sophistication of pálinka production today. The tour ends with a tasting of Zwack Noble and Kosher pálinkas in special glasses supervised by expert sommeliers. Pálinkas and souvenirs of the distillery can be purchased in the Museum Shop.
