Creative Sorts

In case you hadn’t already heard, 2009 is officially the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. So, it’s all about change, progression and shiny new things – and where better to celebrate this than the ever-changing Budapest, where, until October 11th, Budapest Design Week will be in full swing? Unsurprisingly, this year’s event’s central theme is Creative Energies, and the main focus is on artists’ creativity, knowledge-based products and services, new generation materials and 21st century technologies. There are still a few days left for you to get your creative juices flowing. Oh, but if you miss any, many of the exhibitions will continue over the coming months.

Presentation of the Finnish Designer: Harri Koskinen

Harri Koskinen is one of the most recognized Finnish designers of our time, having risen to international fame with his exhibition at the Issey Miyake Design Studio Gallery in 2000. His success is marked by prestigious clients, awards, and exhibitions across the globe. From amongst his works, Block Lamp, an object resembling an ice cube lit from the inside, has been placed in the design collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art.

Posters in Socialism

A chance to explore commercial posters produced between 1945 and 1989, tracing styles, slogans and consumer habits. Posters will be displayed on advertising pillars, evoking the atmosphere of the streets of days gone by, alongside photographs of typical shop fronts and recreated shop windows and interiors furnished with period products. Some real, socio-deco design.

The Golden Age of Grotesque: the 10th anniversary of Grotesque and KGB

Book presentation and anniversary party

Grotesque Design, celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, and its partner, KGB Animation Studio, will be hosting an unconventional evening. In addition to an exclusive book presentation containing graphic works from the past few years, performers and groups the artists have worked with during their career will perform, including Ultrahang performers (Tigrics, Taklamakán), Sonar, Amber Smith, HS7 and an Anima Sound System DJ Set.
