Farsang (carnival, in Hungarian) is the time of year when we can reconnect with our inner child and transform ourselves into what we always wanted to be – even if it’s only for one night.
And where to get a little help in the event of not having a complete, flashy costume at hand during the party season?
About ten years ago, the dream of a German woman came true when she opened a little treasure trove on theater-packed Nagymező utca (a.k.a, the Pest Broadway). Named the Glamour Costume and Accessories Shop, this hidden gem is a place for the imagination and those not afraid (or who haven’t forgotten how) to play. With a feel of Broadway and theatrical fancy about it, the unusual combo of old furniture, quirky little objects and pictures makes for an atmosphere of 1930s’ Paris and the sizzling world of the Moulin Rouge.
Pretty much whatever you’re looking for – be it shocking, cute, hot or hilarious – you’re likely to find something to help your look along, in the form of ready-made costumes and finishing touches, including jewelry (of various types and styles), headbands, feathers and leathers and boas and… well, loads of bits and pieces to take your carnival transformation to a whole new level. Need a bit of a personal TLC? No problem; the crew offer help with your ideas and are open to ordering all you might need, be it for a single costume or a whole theater company. Oh, and it’s for carnival kings, too.
