Swing Into Spring

When sweet floral fragrance fills the air and the vivid colours of blooming trees paint the landscape, that’s when we know it is spring. The undoubtedly most beautiful season is just around the corner, get yourself into the spring spirit by following the inspiring list below!

#1 Give a Makeover to Your Wardrobe

New season, new wardrobe! A tidy, organized closet isn’t only a utopian fantasy, there are plenty of DIY hacks to make your life easier. Start by selecting the clothes you haven’t worn in years and donate them to a charity shop, for instance. You can make room for spring outfits by packing up the warm, knitted pullovers too. Organize! Add drawers, use colour coordination, try triangular shoe racks or double up your hangers (and space) by pairing up items that you usually wear together.

#2 Go on a Picnic

Call yours friends or invite some family members on a picnic at Normafa or Margitsziget! Fill the basket with sandwiches, home-made cookies, fruits and your favourite soft drinks or mineral water and embrace the beauties of nature on fresh air. If you like playing cards or board games, bring them along too. It’s also great to go alone and relax with a good book in hand. It’s going to do wonders for your mood.

#3 Clean the House

From kitchen to forge, make sure that your living space is neat and tidy. Spring is the season of new beginnings, what better way to start it off than by organizing and cleaning up your home? Here are some DIY bathroom cleaning tips: mix ½ cup of baking soda with 2 gallons of water and use a sponge mop to clean the tiles and grout. Get rid of the washing machine’s bad smell by the super duo of white vinegar and baking soda! It’s easy: run the machine with hot water, add the cleaning agents and let it sit for 30-60 minutes before restarting. Once the water drained, wipe it dry.

#4 Take a Hike

Have you ever tried hiking? If your answer is no, you should probably put it on your bucket list this spring. Experience nature’s rejuvenation at first hand! There are several short-distance (13-18 km) loop trails to start with, whether you’d like to discover Mecsek Valley, Nagykanizsa Gorge (not far from Lake Balaton) or Pest County’s Spartacus Path which climbs along the slopes of the Börzsöny and Visegrád mountains.

#5 Visit a Flea Market

Budapest is a haven of vintage shops and markets, and from communist-era mementos to eclectic arrays of antiques you can find all kinds of interesting things. Are you the fan of unique, one-of-a-kind clothes and fashion & home accessories? Check out Ecseri Market, Szputnyik or Gozsdu Weekend Market, and get yourself something “new” for spring!

 #6 Watch the Sunrise

Waking up early to witness the beautiful sunrise is something we should all do at least once in our life. Choose a day when you could otherwise sleep long (at the weekend, or a day off) and set your alarm clock a while before sunset! (You can check the specific time for each day on the internet). Dress up well/wrap yourself in a blanket if you are lucky enough to experience a nice sunrise from your window, or target a good spot (the best ones in Budapest are Gellért Hill or the Citadella) with a hot drink in hand, and voilá, your day couldn’t start better.

#7 Take Pictures

Spring means rejuvenation, blossoming trees, nature turning into green, long walks in the fresh air, singing birds and sunshine that brings smiles on everyone’s face. Doesn’t it sound like the perfect time to take photos? Spring provides a wonderful background for any family/friend photo, selfie or simply nature shots, it’s a sin not to use such an opportunity. Make memories, and capture them!
