5 Churches You Can Visit During This Year’s Ars Sacra

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, Ars Sacra Festival has made its mission to revive the sacrality of Europe’s common Judeo-Christian cultural heritage. The free-to-attend event includes the Church Open Day on 16 September with many interesting programs of several churches throughout the country. Here are 5 that is worth visiting during this year’s Ars Sacra.

Presentation of the Church – Kőbányai Szent László Church – between 10am and 2pm

Kőbányai Szent László Church was being built from 1894 to 1899 based on the concept of Ödön Lechner. In the building representing Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Persian and Hungarian characteristics the visitors can participate in guided tours starting every half an hour.

Walk to the Churches of the City Centre – Belvárosi Ferences Church – 2pm

During this guided walk you can get to know the Franciscan Church, Egyetemi Church, Pálos Library, Szent Mihály Church and Belvárosi Nagyboldogasszony Parish. All of the mentioned churches are both precious memorials of architecture and venues of the most prominent events in Hungarian history. Pálos Library needs to be paid special attention to, as it is a true curiositiy for culture lovers.
