Flowers 101

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet” – Scripted Shakespeare in the second act of Romeo and Juliet. Flowers are given on several occasions throughout the year: birthdays, graduations, women’s day, anniversaries, other celebrations and even funerals.

But what do we know about the system behind the whole concept of gladdening our loved ones with a bouquet of roses or one single tulip? As Valentine’s Day is getting closer and florists are getting busier, it can be quite a struggle for some people to find the right kind of flowers to surprise their loved ones. Here is your guide that can make you fluent in the language of flowers!

Red Roses: As the perfect metaphor of romance, red roses are usually given in the name of passion and love. Though they are great gifts to our Significant Other on any occasion, it gets even more appreciated when it is given for no particular reason at all.

Yellow Roses: This colour represents friendship, bearing less romantic effects compared to red roses. A single yellow rose could be a great gift for siblings and co-workers. White Roses: Just like in many other cases, white is the colour of innocence when it comes to flowers as well. Flawless courtesies towards family members on any occasion. Pink Roses: If you would like to express your secret admiration to someone, pink is an excellent medium between the passion filled red and the friendly yellow roses.

Lilies: Representing purity and sweetness, these would be tailor-made gifts to surprise a niece or daughter. Carnations: If you’re nourishing romantic feelings for someone, but you’re still in the “getting to know each other” phase, carnations are a sweet and thoughtful way to express your interest. Daisies: The flower of loyal love, a beautiful choice for Mother’s Day for example.
