Autumn Farmers Markets

With autumn in full swing and the freezing winter season peaking over the leaf-covered horizon, now is the time to stock up on Mother Nature’s nutritious gifts. Don’t worry, you don’t have to venture all the way to the countryside to find the best and freshest produces: lucky for you, we have collected our favourite Budapest farmers markets, helping you make the most of the season!

kiskertpiac

Hosted inside the industrial-chic walls of popular urban hangout Anker’t, kiskertpiac is a monthly event focusing on community building through the shared love of urban and sustainable lifestyles. On 18 November the organizers of kiskertpiac will team up with the vendors of Slow Gasztro Market to bring you a healthy and wide selection of syrups, teas, yogurts, gluten- and sugar-free snacks, pies, dips, chutneys, honeys, sausages, cheeses and more. Open from 10 AM to 4 PM, the downtown farmers market will also feature a number of Hungarian designers, florists, as well as fun family programmes!

Czakó Piacz

1016 Budapest, Czakó utca 15.

Situated in the tranquil Tabán district of Buda, on the gentle slopes of Naphegy, Czakó Piacz first opened its doors to the organic foodie community in March 2017. Since then, the open-air farmers market has become an indispensable part of the local fresh produce scene, thanks to its rustic atmosphere, friendly vendors, and the richness and quality of the items that they offer. Czakó Piacz is open every Saturday between 8 AM and 3 PM, awaiting visitors with fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, organic seeds, various oils, marmalades, artisanal cheeses, handcrafted chilli jams, eggs, mushrooms, and a beautiful panoramic view of the city.

Szimpla Farmers Market

1075 Budapest, Kazinczy utca 14.

Held every Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM, the farmers market of Budapest’s most famous ruin bar has everything you’re looking for: operating since 2013, the market and its 30-40 vendors regularly attract more than 3,000 customers, who are awaited by a mouth-watering selection of locally sourced cheese varieties, honey, jams, syrups, vegetables and fruits, meats, freshly picked and dried mushrooms, truffle specialties, spices, and sandwich spreads. In addition, the upper floor of Szimpla also gives home to Szimpla Brunch, enticing those with an empty stomach with delicious juices, homemade cocoa, special pick-me-ups, muesli, as well as other food items.

Pancs Gasztroplacc

1094 Budapest, Tűzoltó utca 22.

Founded in 2016, Pancs Gasztroplacc operates every Sunday between 9 AM and 2 PM on the courtyard of the city’s biggest craft beer venue, Élesztőház, under 22 Tűzoltó utca. The merchandise consists of smoked meats, cheese specialties, healthy and hand-crafted granola varieties, Hungarian and Italian bakery products free of additives, and colourful, vitamin-rich vegetables. However, Pancs is more than just a simple farmers market for the health-conscious: special culinary hosts, workshops, meet-and-eats, and charity cooking events await visitors all throughout the year!

Forest Market

2029 Budakeszi, Hidegvölgyi Erdészlak

Located just a few kilometres from the city limits of Budapest, in the woodlands of Budakeszi, Mozgó Piac organizes a peculiar farmers market on Sundays once a month. The Forest Market, frequented by a colourful mixture of hikers, visitors of the nearby Budakeszi Arboretum, and gourmet foodies, is the perfect Autumn destination to refill your batteries as well as your kitchen cupboard: besides offering a great variety of farmers’ products, from meats to oils, goat cheese soap and vegetable pastes, the family-friendly Forest Market also awaits guests with heart-warming community cook-ups. The market is accessible by the Volán bus line 794 and 795 from Széna tér, and you’ll have to get off at the stop Hidegvölgyi erdészlak. Check the Facebook page for details on their next event!

Central Market Hall

1093 Budapest, Vámház krt. 1-3.

Although not a farmers market in the strict sense, leaving out the Central Market Hall from our list would be an unforgivable sin. Instead of talking about the unmatched abundance of edible riches housed inside this grand Art Nouveau gem from the turn of the century, we’re going to draw your attention to the informative guided walking tour of Budapest Walkshops to be held on 16 November at 3 PM. The 2-hour walk will shed light on the history of one of the largest indoor markets in Europe, show you around its underground passageways, and give you a taste of the city’s best strudels!
