The Castle is Ours festival has been organized since 2013 during the Whitsun weekend at the Vajdahunyad Castle in Budapest. The aim of the festival is to get a wider public acquainted with the Hungarian castles and to present old Hungarian cultural and historical traditions.
However, beside history-lovers, visiting the festival is highly recommended for everyone who loves a great, family friendly, admission free cultural festival in the middle of Budapest, at the wonderful and astonishing Vajdahunyad Castle. In 2018 the program will take place between 19-21 May.
Program Highlights
Among others, the program presents castle showcases, armoury and costume shows, battles, knights’ duels, folk music and dance performances, craft workshops, museum exhibitions, fairs and family programs inside and outside the Vajdahunyad Castle. Visitors can also participate in guided castle history tours in the Castle and in its towers.
Castle showcase and “Edutainment”
The castles are unique architectures of the European medieval history. They are powerful national and cultural symbols, they preserve the material culture and the traditions of the old times. In the centre of the festival a castle showcase takes place every year where the visitors can get many exciting information about the castles and a better understanding about the Hungarian and regional history. In addition, the visitors are also informed about the various services offered by the castles and castle museums nowadays. Beside the castle presentations, special temporary exhibitions and the permanent exhibitions of The Museum of Hungarian Agriculture can be visited also for free during the festival.
Family entertainment
The Castle is Ours! festival is visited by thousands of local visitors and tourists every year.
The colourful cultural event offers great fun for families. All families with small children are welcome! The organizers offer many activities designed for kids. For instance, this year medieval playhouse, puppet shows, contests, creative workshops, cartoon movie creation will available. Each year a toy exhibition and fair is also included in the festival program.
