In the past fourteen years, Jameson CineFest, the International Film Festival of Miskolc has become one of the most renowned galas of the region. Every September, the film industry and their starry-eyed audience can have a chance to watch the best works of the past year, most which would be screened in Hungary for the first time.
When the organizers came up with the concept, their aim was to create an acclaimed film festival in the region. Their Feature and Short Film Section continuously delivers a high level. Good Time, a movie that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, casting Robert Pattinson, one of the biggest successes of Sundance, Brigsby Bear, or the western horror party shot in Hungary, Brimstone will surely be screened this year during the Jameson CineFest.
In the Open Eye Section presenting the recent works of the masters of contemporary cinema, you can see the Palme d’Or winner Ruben Östlund”s The Square. Besides the world of western horror, this year’s CineGenre Section, which displays several film types, will put musicals in the spotlight. You can enjoy a wide range of musicals, both new and classic pieces, like Jacques Demy’s masterpiece, Les Demoiselles de Rochefort with Catherine Deneuve and Gene Kelly, or the timeless Rocky Horror Picture Show and Hair, while the MusicDocs will bring you the best of the genres.
CineClassics, the programme capturing the essence of history of cinema, supported by István Szabó, will commemorate the legendary Hungarian director Géza Radványi.
This year, Hungary will host one of the most prestigious film workshops: the Torino Film Lab chose to team up with Jameson CineFest, which is a great salute to the Hungarian movie industry and the highly praised festival of Miskolc.
