Are you interested in practical filmmaking? Choose Budapest Film Academy!

In order to satisfy a growing demand from both prospective students and industry employers, the Budapest Film Academy (BFA) and Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) runs a dynamic international film program in Hungary, offering film courses and practical training in both English and Hungarian.

Their goal is to produce a new generation of broad-minded filmmakers who are adept in every aspect of the movie business and equipped to succeed in both Europe and the United States.

The BFA-ELTE joint approach is to teach filmmaking not only as a form of art, but as a global business. Hence, a major part of the curriculum focuses on how to raise funds, involve partners and create international co-productions – that is, how to establish and develop a successful career in the film industry.

The Budapest Film Academy (BFA) provides its students with up-to-date knowledge; therefore, even with the change of the market, they will become employable industry professionals.

The classes are held in two languages: English and Hungarian. In each case, there is an interpreter who translates for those who do not speak the given language; but with the help of earphones, students can easily follow the lectures.

The curriculum primarily deals with genre films. Students can learn the requirements, motives and the structure of these movies. Those who want to make art films, they still need to learn the rules before they start dismissing them and creating their own. Only after being familiar with the classic structure can these filmmakers decide which elements they want to ignore, or change.

The Academy’s faculty is made up of highly qualified filmmakers and award winners of the industry, who lend to students not only their knowledge, but their networking as well.

Apply for this Fall semester’s program!

The Budapest Film Academy regular and advanced courses are starting on September 11.

As in the previous semester, they’ll have basic cinematography, directing, screenwriting, producing and editing-sound recording courses.

Students with experience can apply for their advanced  level programs.

This is the second semester when the Los Angeles based Loyola Marymount University (LMU), which is the 8th best filmmaking University in the United States, sends his students to the academy. It’s a great honour that they chose the joint program of Budapest Film Academy and ELTE as their study abroad partner.

Not only students, but an American professor will arrive to Budapest from Los Angeles as well: Karol Hoeffner will teach two courses – advanced screenwriting and advanced screenwriting based on adaptations.

In addition to these two courses the academy will have a merged advanced cinematography-directing course for those who already have some cinematography or directorial knowledge.

They’ll also offer an advanced editing, and an advanced creative producing course.
