So, you haven’t been to a Carnival masquerade since primary school, but this year your friends in Budapest decided that reviving the old tradition is a perfect excuse for a get-together that may or may not involve a couple of drinks? There’s just one tiny little problem: you’re gonna need a costume. We’ve got your back: check out some easy DIY ideas, and a great costume shop!
Selfie Costume
If you say last minute, we say do it yourself! Are you dreaming of the best costume? It doesn’t have to lack imagination just because you’ve run out of time. The internet is a gold mine of inspiration – and not only in the sense that you can use it to search for ideas. Take a more direct approach and dress up as something related to the world wide web. For instance, make a selfie costume by printing out the easily recognizable Instagram frame or drawing it on a cardboard. Make sure that you have every text and button at the right place, cut out the middle, and hold it in front of your face – ta-daa! You can keep switching poses throughout the party, and instantly become a real-life moving selfie.
Get Inspired by Google Maps
If you’re into apps and other geeky stuff, you can also go as Google Maps. Buy a cheap gray T-shirt, spiff it up with some yellow tape to represent criss-crossing streets and roads, and in case you’re a perfectionist, glue on a few printed-out signs that signal bus stops, train stations or restaurants. Cut out a huge red pin shape from cardboard (you know, the one that looks like an upside-down teardrop, pointing to locations you’ve searched for), put a letter on it (“A” would be sensible), and cut an oval shape in the middle so you can stick your face through it. All set!
Mind-Blowing Stick Man
Lastly, consider dressing up as a stick man. “How in the world?” you may ask. Don’t worry, no drastic changes in your diet are necessary. Surely you can wear all white clothes and draw or tape on black lines and get it over and done with. But you can also create a much more fun look if you wear black from head to toe and use glowing LED sticks, LED tape or a battery powered EL wire to create the lines that make up the glow-in-the-dark stick man! Trust us: you’ll look more awesome than if you’d started crafting your costume half a year ago.
