The winter holidays can’t go by without us visiting Budapest’s most wonderful Christmas market that takes place on Vörösmarty tér every year and is organized by Budapest Festival and Tourism Centre. It is not only a tourist attraction but a program locals enjoy as well.
This Christmas market is not only about warming mulled wine, hot chocolate and other delicacies. There are several artisan products presented on Vörösmarty tér, the producers of which are members of the Hungarian Artisan Co. These artefacts prove the versatility of the Hungarian arts & crafts.
The aim of the Hungarian Artisan Co. is to show through the displayed products how exciting the traditional Hungarian trades are. The local tradesmen’s products have been previously monitored, so that only the highest quality can be purchased on the market as either Christmas presents or homey decorations.
This winter there are a great number of clothes, scarves, hats and caps to keep us warm throughout the season. There is no winter market without Christmas decoration: Advent wreaths, Christmas tree ornaments and lights as well as soaps that are made of natural ingredients and scented with vegetable oil are all there to help us make our home more beautiful.
The Christmas spirit is everywhere thanks to the decoration on Vörösmarty tér which was provided by basket weaver Kata Horváth (Zöld Fűz Fonoda).
The biggest attraction of the market is the 3-diameter wreath that is decorated with an immense amount of pine branches and rosehips.
First time this year, 10 angels adorn the main stage. They hold trombones in their hands as a symbol of music and art and are twirled in Christmas lights (with 2000 bulbs) which shine under their white tulle dresses. 7 of them are placed on the rooftop dancing and making music, and 3 on the stage.
