Brody Lit Nite

Hungarian Literature Online (HLO) is teaming up with Brody Studios – Budapest’s hottest members’ social club – to introduce a monthly literary discussion evening for members, their guests, and the readers of HLO.

The evenings will bring discussions with the best contemporary Hungarian writers to an English-speaking audience in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, presenting Hungarian literature in an accessible and engaging form. Each evening will feature a different invited guest – a writer or literary figure – in discussion (in English) with one of the editors of HLO, with readings from their translated work, and plenty of scope for contributions from the audience.

Kick-off event: Tuesday 14 March 8 pm with György Dragomán

..whose book The White King has enjoyed international success in 30 languages and has just been adapted for the screen. Published in English (translated by Paul Olchvary) in 2008, The White King was longlisted for the 2009 Independent Foreign Fiction Prize in the UK. The New York Times called it “a darkly beautiful novel”. Dragomán’s new, third novel, The Bone Fire is soon to be published in English at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. The editor of HLO, Mark Baczoni, will be talking to the author about his work, his style, the process of translation and adaptation for the screen, and more generally – about himself.
