Leta 1861 je bila v Budi zgrajena deponija Ju\u017ene \u017eelezni\u0161ke dru\u017ebe, leta 1867 pa je za\u010dela obratovati glavna postaja J\u00f3zsefv\u00e1ros M\u00c1V.<\/p>\n<p>Leta 1868 je dr\u017eavni zbor razpravljal o gradnji druge postaje v Pe\u0161ti, da bi zadostili nara\u0161\u010dajo\u010demu \u0161tevilu potnikov, vendar je gospodarska kriza gradnjo prelo\u017eila. \u010ceprav je bila dolgo na\u010drtovana gradnja objekta na Velikem bulvarju, ki bi bil z viaduktom povezan z glavno postajo v J\u00f3zsefv\u00e1rosu, je bila nazadnje izbrana druga lokacija.<\/p>\n<p>Gradnja je kon\u010dno potekala med letoma 1881 in 1884, izvajalec del pa so bile Mad\u017earske kraljeve dr\u017eavne \u017eeleznice.<\/p>\n<p>Rojstvo znamenite stavbe<br \/>\nStavbo je zasnoval glavni in\u017eenir Gyula Rochlitz, za \u017eelezno konstrukcijo pa je bil odgovoren J\u00e1nos Feketeh\u00e1zy, in\u017eenir mostov, ki je zasnoval tudi streho opere. Ker sta oba med \u0161tudijem veliko potovala po Evropi, sta navdih \u010drpala iz podrobnosti stavb, ki sta jih tam videla, zato ni presenetljivo, da mnogi ljudje najdejo podobnosti med vzhodno \u017eelezni\u0161ko postajo in znanimi svetovnimi postajami.<\/p>\n<p>Eklekti\u010dna, ve\u010dinoma historicisti\u010dna stavba je bila prvotno na\u010drtovana kot dvonadstropna, v prvem nadstropju pa naj bi bile pod tiri kavarne, prekladalne naprave za prtljago in po\u0161ta, vendar je bila izbrana preprostej\u0161a mo\u017enost.<\/p>\n<p>Obse\u017ena in impozantna postajna avla je bila odprta za javnost pod freskami M\u00f3ra Thana in freskami K\u00e1rolyja Lotza, dva kipa na glavni fasadi stavbe pa sta upodabljala Jamesa Watta, izumitelja parnega stroja, in Georgea Stephensona, konstruktorja parne lokomotive.<\/p>\n<p>Poseben uspeh je bila elektri\u010dna razsvetljava, ki jo je zagotovilo podjetje Ganz Electricity Works in je bila za tisti \u010das zelo moderna, pri \u010demer ni treba pozabiti na dejstvo, da je bila to prva evropska postaja, ki je uporabljala razsvetljavo z \u017earnicami.<\/p>\n<p>Seveda je bila glavna skrb namenjena zagotavljanju najve\u010djega udobja potnikov, potniki pa so lahko u\u017eivali v sodobni opremi, ki je bila prilagojena njihovemu prora\u010dunu. \u010cakalnice so sledile vrstnemu redu avtobusnih razredov, tako da so bili potniki, ki so potovali v posameznih razredih, lo\u010deni ter dele\u017eni dobrodo\u0161lice in oskrbe, ki so si jo zaslu\u017eili glede na \u0161tevilko sede\u017ea.<\/p>\n<p>V \u010dakalnici so bile sprva tudi knjigarne, trgovine z obla\u010dili, trafike in kavarna.<\/p>\n<p>Za\u010detek novega obdobja<br \/>\n\u010ceprav otvoritvene slovesnosti ni bilo, je 16. avgusta 1884 s postaje v Miskolc odpeljal prvi vlak. Veli\u010dastna stavba in moderna \u017eelezni\u0161ka postaja sta vzbudili izjemno pozitiven odziv, saj so o novem biseru prestolnice poro\u010dali vsi takratni \u010dasopisi.<\/p>\n<p>V \u010dasopisu Budapesti H\u00edrlap je bilo delo projektantov pohvaljeno z naslednjimi vrsticami: \u201dEden od okraskov veli\u010dastnih javnih zgradb v Budimpe\u0161ti, nova potni\u0161ka postaja. Je krona veli\u010dastne in slavne postaje glavnega mesta. Je veli\u010dastna in lepa, namenska in veli\u010dastna, udobna in uporabna, stavba, vredna Mad\u017earske in glavnega mesta. Na svetu ji ni para.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vas\u00e1rnapi Ujs\u00e1g je prav tako pohvalil novost: \u201dJe ena najbolj okra\u0161enih tovrstnih stavb, po udobnosti in namenskosti ureditve pa ji lahko konkurira le dale\u010d naokoli, saj je bila do najmanj\u0161ih podrobnosti zgrajena z doma\u010dimi silami.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sprva se je imenovala osrednja potni\u0161ka postaja, pozneje se je preimenovala v osrednjo \u017eelezni\u0161ko postajo, leta 1892 pa so jo preimenovali v vzhodno \u017eelezni\u0161ko postajo. Istega leta so na trgu pred postajo odkrili kip nekdanjega ministra za promet G\u00e1borja Barossa.<\/p>\n<p>Od neviht 20. stoletja do danes<br \/>\nTako postajno poslopje kot proge so se nenehno izbolj\u0161evale vse do za\u010detka prve svetovne vojne, ko je bilo obmo\u010dje uporabljeno za voja\u0161ke namene. \u010ceprav se je \u0161iritev nadaljevala tudi v tridesetih letih 20. stoletja, se za\u010detni zagon ni obdr\u017eal in s prihodom druge svetovne vojne se je proces ustavil.<\/p>\n<p>Konec leta 1940 se je na naslovnicah pojavil zelo poseben dogodek, ko je 18. decembra ob 12.10 popoldne potisni vlak zaradi okvare zavore z veliko hitrostjo pripeljal proti vhodu, a so ga zaustavila \u017eelezni\u0161ka vrata. Dejstvo, da ni bilo po\u0161kodovanih oseb, je bilo posledica sre\u010de, saj pri vhodu ali na trgu pred njim ni nih\u010de stal.<\/p>\n<p>Osupljivo uni\u010denje druge svetovne vojne ni prizaneslo postaji in njeni okolici, vklju\u010dno s po\u017eigom strani prihodov, uni\u010denjem nekdaj okra\u0161enega pro\u010delja in ru\u0161evinami tirov.<\/p>\n<p>Na trgu pred postajo je bilo leta 1945 kopali\u0161\u010de, ki je bilo prvotno zgrajeno leto prej kot rezervoar po\u017earne vode za potrebe zra\u010dnega napada. Tudi po zaslugi razvoja zgodovine je leta 1950 nad vhodom sijala velika rde\u010da zvezda.<\/p>\n<p>Konec \u0161estdesetih let prej\u0161njega stoletja je bila dokon\u010dana podzemna \u017eeleznica 2, ki je s seboj prinesla podhod in zdaj kultno stopni\u0161\u010de, zaradi pove\u010danega prometa potnikov pa je bilo name\u0161\u010denih vedno ve\u010d avtomatov za prodajo vozovnic. Poleg menze za potnike je bila odprta tudi zelo presti\u017ena restavracija.<\/p>\n<p>Stavba je bila leta 1988 razgla\u0161ena za zgodovinski spomenik, zadnje ve\u010dje prenove pa so potekale med letoma 2004 in 2008, vendar se od takrat nenehno posodablja. Najnovej\u0161a sprememba v \u017eivljenju postaje je bila njena preobrazba leta 2014 v kon\u010dno postajo podzemne \u017eeleznice
