Considering its immense size, Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe, boasts several cycling trails. The first bike path that comes to your mind is probably the one running around the lake, which takes 3-5 days to accomplish, but now let us turn your attention to two adventures shorter in distance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Semi-Circle<\/strong> (76 kilometres in 2 days)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Starting and ending in Zam\u00e1rdi, Semi-Circle takes only a day (and 76 km) of cycling, but it\u2019s worth staying overnight half way if you want to enjoy the landscape while bathing or sightseeing.<\/p>\n

Both Zam\u00e1rdi and Si\u00f3fok offers bathing facilities as they boast public beaches, but you have to leave the cycling route that brings you back to the lake only at S\u00f3st\u00f3. Get prepared that you\u2019ll bump into steep slopes in Balatonakarattya and Balatonvil\u00e1gos.<\/p>\n

Leaving Balatonalm\u00e1di, get off the track at K\u00e1ptalanf\u00fcred and follow a busier and hillier route (Lovas \u2013 Paloznak \u2013 K\u00f6vesd \u2013 Balatonar\u00e1cs \u2013 Balatonf\u00fcred \u2013 Asz\u00f3f\u0151), also called old Roman road, straight to Tihany peninsula. If you prefer the beaten track, take a break at Guruljon az \u00c9let! located between Csopak and Balatonf\u00fcred.<\/p>\n

With its several monuments, fine restaurants and exciting nightclubs, Balatonf\u00fcred is the capital of the northern shore, a bustling city compared to the neighbouring towns. Approach Tihany from Asz\u00f3f\u0151 and Sajkod, as continuing your way next to the shore would take a very steep slope to get to the city. In Tihany, you\u2019ll only need to wait for the ferry to get back to Sz\u00e1nt\u00f3d, then Zam\u00e1rdi.<\/p>\n

K\u00e1li Basin \u2013 Badacsony \u2013 H\u00e9v\u00edz (110 kilometres in 2-3 days)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Although this cycling route seems to be a only a slightly longer than the first one, it\u2019s easy to spend a whole week on this gastro-focused cycling trail: besides the most beautiful natural and cultural treasures of the Balaton Uplands region, K\u00e1li Basin is famous for its great wines.<\/p>\n

If you leave from Balatonf\u00fcred, you\u2019ll pedal on the bike path alongside road number 71 for a while, but don\u2019t forget to turn off the path before reaching Z\u00e1nka, and turn right to road 7313 towards Tapolca. In the loveliest villages of K\u00e1li Basin (K\u00f6vesk\u00e1l, Szentb\u00e9kk\u00e1lla, Mindszentk\u00e1lla, K\u0151v\u00e1g\u00f3\u00f6rs, K\u00e9kk\u00fat and Salf\u00f6ld), you\u2019ll find excellent hotels, restaurants and wineries. When in K\u00e9kk\u00fat, fill your bottle with mineral water from the Theod\u00f3ra well. Then head back to the shore at \u00c1brah\u00e1mhegy and keep pedalling towards Badacsony and Szigliget Castle. Before reaching Keszthely, taste the frozen flavours of Bringatanya, the best artisan ice cream parlour of the northern shore. From Keszthely, you\u2019ll only need to go six kilometres more to reach H\u00e9v\u00edz, where water lilies float on the surface of the thermal water.<\/p>\n
